Marlys Joan Loomer was born November 18, 1930, at Hazel, SD, to Robert and Gertrude (Weelborg) Haney. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1948, and attended Westmar College in LaMars, IA, and Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. She taught first grade in Watertown, SD. Bloomington, MN and Mitchell, SD. On June 22, 1958, she married James Loomer in Watertown. After their marriage, she joined her husband as the third generation of family ownership of Montgomery Furniture. She was a resident of Alexandria for forty years. Marlys was an active member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church and UMW. She held many different offices in the church and served on numerous church boards as well as taught Sunday school for many years. She served on the Hanson School Board for 10 years, and served as president for 6 of the 10 years. She also served as a den mother for Cub Scouts. Her hobbies included raising dogs, researching family genealogy, reading, crafts, traveling, knitting, cooking, teaching and spending time with her grandchildren.
Marlys is survived by her husband James, two sons: Todd Loomer and wife Karin of Alexandria, Kent Loomer and wife Becci of Harrodsburg, KY, four grandchildren: Knacey Loomer and Joanah Loomer of Harrodsburg, KY, and Amelia and Melina Loomer of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents.
