Maryline A. Peacock

February 6, 1925 - February 20, 2014

Maryline Peacock was born Maryline Alvina Christiansen on February 6, 1925. She was the youngest of six children of Peter and Mary Christiansen from Seneca, SD. She grew up happily learning to help her mother and father with farm and house matters.  After graduating from Seneca High School she moved to Aberdeen to attend nurses’ training at the Presentation School of Nursing; then moved to Mitchell to begin hands’ on nursing at St. Joseph Hospital where she completed her RN degree.  She met Lloyd Peacock, then a mechanic and taxi driver, who often transported student nurses to the USO dances held at the Mitchell Airport. They married on May 28, 1945.  She worked as a floor nurse, private duty nurse, community health nurse, and hospital records keeper during her nursing career.  During this time she and Lloyd had five children which added to her very busy life. They moved their family to a farm east of Mitchell in the early 60’s where their children completed their times at home learning the ins and outs of farming with their devoted parents. With her nursing and nursing-related work, she and her husband, Lloyd, assisted each of their five children to acquire an education in their chosen fields.

She was a member of Catholic Daughters, the lay ministry of Holy Family Church, St. Joseph (Presentation) Retired Nurses Association, the DAV Auxiliary Society, and a member of James Valley Community Center. The family was a long-time member of the Holy Family Catholic Church. She and Lloyd belonged to the Mitchell Moose Club for a number of years.

In her later years she moved to Rapid City to live with her youngest daughter, Myrna Peacock.  She loved to sit in the sun near a large picture window and watch the birds and beautiful scenery.  She took long walks and busied herself with reading and other activities that interested her. She also helped in the upkeep of their home.

She is survived by her four daughters: Mrs. Frederick (Maryline Peacock) Deer of Logan, IL, Connie, Dorothy, and Myrna Peacock all of Rapid City, SD.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; their only son, Douglas; her parents, Peter and Mary Christiansen; her siblings: one sister, Myrtle (Joe) Lee, brothers, Emil (Dora), Myron (Grace), Norwin (Lorraine), and Harvey (Adeline) Christiansen.

Maryline loved children. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

You have our sympathy. Unfortunately I did not know about the services until about one hour ago and with the snow, I'm sorry we won't be able to attend. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time of adjustment.

You have our sympathy in the death of your Mom. May you find comfort with the memories you have of your life with her. I hope to see you Maryline at our 50th Class Runion in Aug 2014. I do not have your address, but maybe I can locate your email address. Mine should show up here, so maybe Michele Bittner can provide it to you. LOVE, PEACE, & PRAYERS, to you and your family.

Gary and I are retired now, and live in our Motorhome Fulltime. During the winter months we go south to avoid Ice n Snow, but in the summer months we are SD Birds again to be with our families. I am sorry to say that we are in Florida now, shall miss your Mom's Funeral and being able to see you in person. Kay (Hemmer) Shafer
