Dolores "Dee" Jean Stedman

August 5, 1926 - March 11, 2014

Dee was born August 5, 1926 in Walker, MN to Charles and Pearl (Allen) Berry.  She grew up and attended school in LaPorte, MN. She was then employed as a telephone operator in Bemidji, MN.  During WWII, she worked as a riveter in the shipyards in Portland, OR.  After the war, she returned to Walker, MN, where she worked at the Silver Dollar Club.

She then moved to South Dakota, where she married Harold Mankenberg in Mitchell, giving birth to two children.  In 1962, she married Leo Stedman. This marriage produced one son.  Dolores was a longtime and active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.  She was also a volunteer for Prairie Hospice and the Meals on Wheels Program. She and her husband Leo served many holiday meals to the less fortunate from the kitchen at St. Mary’s.

Her hobbies included league bowling with her sister Maxine for many years, reading, cooking, and enjoying a drink with her friends.  Dee was never afraid to debate current events with anyone.

She is survived by five children: Georganne Sorenson, Pierre; Richard Stedman, Mitchell; Maxine “Mikki” Boggs, LaPorte, MN; Michael Mankenberg (Dan Carson), Glendale, AZ and Don Stedman (Cindee), Brookings; six grandchildren: Deb Sorenson (Norman); Dan Sorenson; Darcy Lyon (Mark); Russ Stedman (Solvei); Rochelle Sailer (Shannon); and Henry Stedman;  five great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and four sisters, and her daughter-in-law Reva Stedman.
