Obituary

Ruth McLaury, 98, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 23, at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Ruth Maxine McLaury was born April 28, 1925 to Otto and Nancy (Motley) Wittenhagen on a farm near Ethan, SD. She attended rural grade school through eighth grade. Ruth later attended Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1944.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy (Doug) Tews of Minneapolis, MN; sons, John (Jane) of Huron, SD, Terry (Theresa) of Omaha, NE, and Jim (Paula) of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; daughter, Jacalyn; eight brothers and three sisters.

Memorials directed to First Lutheran Church.

Ruth was a great neighbor. On cold mornings, I often remember the old Buick moaning on its way to ME hospital.

My deepest sympathy to Ruth's Family. I worked with Ruth for several years at Methodist Hospital. She was a great person . (I also worked with Jackie & Mavis).

I worked with Ruth and her daughter Jackie and Mavis Wittenhagen Ruth's sister-in-law in-law. Loved working with all three of them at Methodist Hospital in the late 70's. They made work so much fun. So sorry for your loss.

Aunt Ruth was like a second mother to me. Always took time to talk with me. She is a very sweet soul. I will miss her dearly. Rest in peace, Ruth.
