Obituary

William Thorpe, 36, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Visitation will be Monday, March 11, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

William George Reginald Thorpe was born December 6, 1987 in North Carolina. He was a very rare soul, He was down to earth, made friends with everyone, and treated everyone as if they were his family. The world to his siblings and often those around him. He had a smile that would light up the universe, although he was as big as a grizzly bear, he was as gentle as a mother’s kiss. He was the 5th born of 6 children and leaves behind 5 siblings and multiple nieces and nephews. William often enjoyed long conversations, making people laugh and being in the presence of love. Growing up he was a well-known athlete, and although he was an amazing athlete and his talent cast a shadow, he made sure everyone around him got to shine. William loved his siblings, and they loved him. Today his siblings lay him to rest, and although it was unexpected and sudden, they find solace, knowing he has earned his wings and will now be with his mother who we all miss dearly. William would always say “one thing about it, everything is going to be alright”, and his words ring true to this day.

Nobody will ever know the pain his passing will leave behind, but all his siblings, friends, and family can say is, “One thing about it, he’s at peace and he’s not alone, he’s home and he’s in our hearts forever” until we meet again FLY HIGH... we are our brother’s keeper.
