Obituary

Alice Murr, 75, of Mitchell, SD, died Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Hollywood, FL. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 7:30 PM prayer service. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 7, at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Alice Murr was born October 30, 1946, to Howard Loughmiller and Norma Carpenter in Colorado Springs, CO.

Alice devoted herself to the great loves of her life: God, her friends and family, and the profession of nursing. She attended Grace Reformed Church in Mitchell, though her declining health had her participating online from home.

Alice made quick friends with almost everyone she encountered, and then kept and cultivated those friendships throughout her whole life.

Alice started out in nursing in her late teens and remained a practicing nurse for over 30 years.  In the 1990s, she shifted to telephone triage as a phone nurse for almost 10 more years. Her greatest contribution to her beloved nursing profession began in the mid-1980s when she joined with her writing partners, Mary Moorhouse and Marilyn Doenges. Together, they published over 25 nursing care manuals, helping to bring consistent nursing care to patients literally all over the world.

Alice is survived by her sons, the Rev. Dr. Kevin Carroll of Mitchell and Darin Carroll of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Beth Williams of Lansing, MI and Linda Renberg of Mitchell; brother, Bill Loughmiller of Colorado Springs, CO; and stepmother, Ethel Loughmiller of Colorado Springs, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

I will forever miss my 'soul sister' for as long as I live and will look forward to the day we will meet again. I will find comfort here knowing you are now my angel in heaven.
