Bernard Hargreaves, 90, formerly of Stickney, SD, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour, SD. A Celebration of Life will be from 2-5:00 PM Sunday, June 19, 2022, at United Methodist Church in Stickney. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Bernard was born October 27th, 1931 to George and Arvilla Clark Hargreaves southeast of Stickney.
He attended grade school at the Sperlich Country School and graduated from Stickney High School in 1949.
He played independent sports for Stickney before being drafted into the Army.
He was inducted into the Army on July 22, 1952, and spent his Basic Training at Camp Breckinridge in Kentucky. He spent 16 months in Korea with some of that time on the Front Line. He received his Honorable Discharge in June of 1954.
On June 19th, 1955 he married Deana Shonley.
In the spring of 1955 he rented his Uncle Willards farm and then bought a dairy farm in 1959 from Harvey and Vi Larsen.
Bernard loved horses and had Draft Horses and quarter horses for many years. He also had cattle, sheep, hogs, and many other animals along the way.
They built a new home in 1991 and moved to the Ed Nowak place where they continued to farm.
He served on many boards, such as the Farmers State Bank, elevator, school and church boards as well as the ASCS board.
Bernard gave his heart to Christ at the age of ten when an Evangelist came to their church. He was a lifetime member of the Stickney United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Deana of 66 years; four children: Dan (Marlene) Hargreaves, Pat (Kenny) Skinner, Jodi (Doug) Odens, and Nancy (Jay) Tolsma; eleven grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert and Wilbur Hargreaves; and two sisters, Bernadine Bintliff and Sharon Gardner.
Memorials received will be given to the Gideon’s for Bibles in his honor.

I always enjoyed him. I recall going to out to the farm to work on milking equipment many times.There was a time when he called me three Sunday mornings in succession. On the third call he said, "Well, it's Sunday morning and guess who needs you again."
So many wonderful memories!!
Parents were good friends with them they enjoyed playing card with them
