Bertha Beatch, 99, of Mitchell, SD, formerly of the Farmer-Epiphany area, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 10, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Church Epiphany Cemetery in Epiphany, SD.
Bertha Barbara Beatch, the daughter of Amiel and Barbara (Noss) Beyer, was born December 13, 1925, in Farmer, SD. Bertha graduated from Farmer High School in 1944 and attended Notre Dame Jr. College in Mitchell, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at the Country School in Hanson County.
Bertha married Francis Beatch on October 21, 1946, in Farmer. They farmed the Beatch Homestead until 1980, when they retired and built a home on the corner of the farm. She moved to Mitchell in 2004.
She was an active member of the Church of Epiphany and the Ladies' Altar Society at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary. She was a 25-year-old member of the Extension Club, a member of Fairview Community Club, and an active volunteer in the community.
Bertha is survived by her three sons, Robert (Nadine) Beatch, Charles (Mary) Beatch, and Jerome (Cindy) Beatch; brother, Tom Beyer; 7 Grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, in 1993; granddaughter, Jamie (Beatch) Shannon; great-great-grandson, Finlee Muilenburg; brother, Maurice (Helen) Beyer; niece, Jeanne Padilla; sisters-in-law, Clarissa Garry, Irene Beatch, and Rose M. Beyer; and brothers-in-law, Julian Beatch and Don Garry.

The last time I saw Bertha was in 2019. Multiple times over a couple of days. She was the best teacher/farmer/lady I probably ever knew.
She and Uncle Francis came to my house in LA in the 80's. She asked if she could have one of my lemons. So she took it home and planted a seed and grew a tree on the farm!
She had it all!
