Obituary

Dennis Reiners, 81, of Mitchell, SD, died Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home with loving family by his side. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 16, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.

Dennis “Den Den” Frederick Reiners was born August 29, 1941, to Lester and Mae (Sinning) Reiners in Worthing, SD. Dennis grew up in Worthing and graduated from Worthing High School in 1959.

Dennis was united in marriage to Jeanette Danielson in 1960, and to this union they had three sons, Tim, Troy, and Travis. He later married Audrey Mausbach in 1971, adding five stepchildren to the family, Jeff, Jody, Jami, Val, and Kathy. In 1974, Dennis’ daughter Melanie was born. They later separated in 1990. Dennis married Mary Beth Munson Larson in 1993, and added two stepdaughters, Vanessa and Jennifer to the family. Dennis and Mary later separated.

In 1960, Dennis began working for the feed mill in Lennox, and began farming three years later. He then worked for John Morrell’s from 1969-1976. In 1976, he began farming again and selling farm equipment. He also ran his own business, Reiners Machinery. Dennis was always on the lookout for a good deal to make a buck. He spent a year in 1984 as a meat inspector at a packing plant. Over his last three years, his love for driving transitioned to being a pilot car driver with his buddies, Gator and Dean. Dennis was always willing to help anyone out. Dennis began sobriety in 1976 and would have been 47 years this August 18th.

Dennis loved working with horses and showing them. He enjoyed living on an acreage just south of Mitchell and traveling the country showing horses. He had several world champion quarter horses.

Dennis is survived by his sons, Tim (Jean) of Worthing, SD, Troy (Michelle) of Lincoln, NE, and Travis (Monica) of Sherwood, AR; daughter, Melanie (Greg) Haak of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren: Tony, Darby, Sydney, Nicole, Parker, Zachary, Alec, Taylor, Shandon, and Daniel; great-grandchildren: Tucker, Millie, Tori, Brynn, Barrett, and soon to be great-granddaughter Savannah; step children, Jody, Jami, Val, Kathy, Vanessa, and Jennifer; step grandchildren: Caitlin, Isaac, Eva, Lillian, Samuel, Madeline, Eli, and Nina; sister, Marcella Reiners; and brothers, Darwin and Gayle Reiners.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Dianne (Terry) Ryan; great-grandson, Barker; stepson, Jeff Nelson; and sister-in-law, Vicki Reiners.

The family would like to thank special family friend Tammy Mohr for her loving care.

Denny may have been a little rough around the edges but I'm glad to have known him.He was the hardest working 80 year old I've ever met.

Dinkel's always enjoyed dealer & talking to Denny! You always knew where he was coming from - never beat around the bush! Just talked to him recently when he drove past Dinkel's "He beat cancer for a long time but he was ready whenever God took him!" Rest in peace Denny - will miss you!

As longtime friends of Mary's I got to know Denny. He and Mary shared a love of horses and over the years had many great ones. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.

I enjoyed getting to know Denny. He was a very hardworking man and had a great laugh. Denny cooked a mean steak or pork chop on that Holland Grill. Denny was always great to my kids and great to me. We had a lot of laughs over the years. My condolences to his family. It is a sad day in my house knowing he is gone.
