Dianna Kummer, 75, of Mitchell, SD, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at her home under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, April 3, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-3:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 2:30 PM prayer service. Graveside services will be at a later date at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Dianna Lynn Kummer was born April 17, 1947, to Elwyn and Delight (Bechen) Pederson in Chester, SD. Dianna graduated high school from Notre Dame in Mitchell. After high school, she earned her Teaching Certificate from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD. She taught first grade in Parkston and substitute taught in Mitchell for a few years prior to becoming a dedicated farm wife.

Dianna was united in marriage to Duane Kummer on July 26, 1968, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. To this union, they had three sons.

Dianna provided foster care for many years helping dozens of children in need. She was a devoted farm wife and homemaker for many years. She was known for being a very skilled cook, loving mother and wife.

Dianna was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was an active member in the Altar Society. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Dianna is survived by her husband, Duane; sons, James (Gloria) of Mitchell, Michael (Rhonda) of Spirit Lake, IA, and Robert (Stefanie) of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Clifford Pederson, Joanne Fields, Don Pederson, and Ray Pederson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Alexander Kummer; brother, Patrick Pederson; brother-in-law, Glen Fields; and sisters-in-law, Ann Pederson, Esther Pederson, and Jean Pederson.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the following people who were very special to Dianna; Deb Bornitz, Theresa Bigge, Dave Bortnem, the Gates Family, the Strand Family and all other family, friends and neighbors who have been close to Dianna throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, Dianna’s family will be donating memorial funds to the VFW Post 2750 located at: 215 N Main Street, Mitchell, SD 57301.
