The wonderful story of a great lady’s life.

Donna Mae McLean was born March 3, 1934, to Lawrence and Judith (Martin) Moir. Donna grew up in Mitchell, was educated in Mitchell, and attended Dakota Wesleyan University. Donna was the recipient of the 4-year Hitchcock Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence. While at Dakota Wesleyan University, she met Donald McLean, who caught her eye on the ballfield wearing a red baseball cap. They were married, and together had three daughters, Deborah, Donita, and Darci.

Supporting her friend and husband, Don, for 70 years was her heartfelt joy. Don was an educator, coach, referee, and farmer. Later in life, another great joy for Donna was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donna also loved weekends spent at their lake cottage at Pickerel Lake.

Donna, a faithful Christian woman, was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, and most recently, attended Northridge Baptist Church. Donna worked in her early years in Christian leadership, education, and activities.

Donna belonged to Round Table Study Club and PEO Chapter J. She enjoyed spending time with her good friends, including the birthday luncheon group and Thursday morning coffee group.

Donna’s talents included sewing, painting, baking, playing the piano, and decorating her home.

Donna is survived by her husband, Don; three daughters, Deb Christensen, Donita Serr, and Darci Winthers; five grandchildren, Lt. Col. Jess and Major Kelsey Christensen, Jamie and Dr. Marek Siorek, Jan and Tate Larson, Andrew Winthers, and Dr. Jon and Shelah Christensen; seven great-grandchildren, Liv and Hally Larson, Juliana, Jaclyn, and James Donald Christensen, Lily Siorek, and Helena Christensen; also her brother, Larry and LaRee Moir and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Moir; mother, Judith Martin Moir; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Keith Hall; and son-in-law, Shawn Winthers.

Love to the Lord.

Debbie my sympathy to you, your dad and sisters. Have so many fond memories from Junior and Senior High with you in church, Sunday School, Job’s Daughters and classes. We spent a lot of time hanging out and your parents were always so gracious when I came over to your house. Have been thinking a lot about you and your family, your mom had a lot of caring family around her.

Beyond the darkness, light. Beyond the sorrow, peace. There are some who bring a light so great into the world that even after they are gone, the light remains. Though your heart must hold deep sadness right now, may it also hold the blessings of the love that will always be a part of you... Praying that God will comfort your heart, uplift your spirit, and carry you through this time of sadness. In the end three things that last: faith, hope, and love, and forever in our hearts, our loved ones are with us every day.
Thinking of you at this difficult time. May you know the deep sympathy and concern that is felt for you and all your family.
