Obituary

Elmira "Louise" Metz, 84, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at Crook County Hospital in Sundance, WY. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 27, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, WY, at a later date.

Louise Metz, as she liked to be called, was born June 10, 1941, in Mitchell, SD, to Margaret Shank. Louise graduated from Mitchell Senior High School. After graduating, she held positions as an administrative assistant. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion, and VFW Auxiliary, James Valley Community Center (where she loved to play bingo and visit with friends).

Louise is survived by her daughter, Rachalle (Robert) Degen; grandchildren, Larissa (Tyler) Stalcup and Rory (Courtney) Degen; grandchildren, Turner and Tucker Stalcup, Axton and Adalee Degen, all of Gillette, WY.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret, and stepfather Johnny Paul, maternal grandparents, Fred and May Shank.

So sorry for your loss. I used to play bingo along side Louise at many places and many nights a week. We always would be laughing about something or of course one of Louise's comments .... RIP Louise. 🙏

Louise and I have been very close friends since Grade School then I married her cousin so we were family!!! Oh I am going to miss her so much!!! I know Rachel and family will too!!! Love and Prayers Rachel and family!!!🙏

So sorry to see this. Louise was a friend back in our "running around" days in 70s an Ron will truly miss sering her on his visits at Firesteel and at Sr. Center. Fun lady and she will be missed. Our sympathy to your family.
