Grace Radke, 82, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Thursday, March 16, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Grace Matilda Radke was born December 18, 1940, to Frank and Elizabeth (Giesen) Wermers on the family farm near Dimock. She joined her siblings, Robert, Virginia, Violet, Joyce, Joseph, Barbara, then later her sister, Ellen. She attended Dimock Parochial School for 8 years then graduated from Parkston High School. After high school she attended Mount Marty College for nursing.
Grace married her high school sweetheart, James Radke, on December 27, 1960, in Dimock, SD. Their courtship began with attending the Dimock Dances and going to Milltown on Sunday afternoons. Grace and Jim loved traveling to different states and countries, and cherished the memories of their trips together.
Grace enjoyed sewing and sewed clothes for her family, including Jim’s dress shirts and her daughter’s prom dresses. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and camping with family. Grace loved spending holidays with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grace was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for 61 years and the Altar Society. She was a long-time sponsor of LifeQuest. She was also a donor to the Abbott House and John Paul II School.
Grace is survived by her husband, Jim; daughters, Nancy (Loren) Adema of Sioux Falls, Lisa (Scott) Mehlhaff of Sioux Falls, and Kathy (Jim) Massa of Winner; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Caffrey of Brandon Valley; in-laws, Denny and Mary Jo Radke, Kay and Barra Birrcher, and Paul and Linda Radke; and special niece, Jean Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Joseph; sisters, Virginia, Violet, Joyce, and Ellen; parents-in-law, Kenneth and Josephine (Nuebel) Radke; and sister-in-law, Dorene (Fred) Huether.
