Obituary

Harold Steinmetz, 83, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. A visitation will be Wednesday, July 12, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Howard.

Harold Steinmetz was born on September 26, 1939, in Farmer, SD, to the late Mike and Marie (Scherer) Steinmetz. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann; siblings Delores, Alice, and Richard; and granddaughter, Zabrina. Harold’s beloved son, John, also predeceased him. He is survived by his children: Tami (Randy) Young, Mitchell, SD; Gerald Steinmetz, Mitchell, SD; Kim (Dave) Nerud Clear Lake, SD; Jim (Jen) Steinmetz, Mt Vernon, SD; (Kristen) Steinmetz, Howard, SD; 17 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; sisters: Theresa Degen, Sioux Falls, SD; Donna Zahrndt, Salem, SD; and Diane Clark, Mesa AZ; sister-in-law, Carol Steinmetz, Farmer, SD. Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Harold was married to Mary Ann (Hendricksen) Steinmetz 1960-1963 and Betty (Marken) Steinmetz 1964-1996. Harold spent his working years doing a variety of occupations including farming, meat packing, auto mechanic, tractor salvage, lawn care, and he had various other talents...too many to list. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock car racing, playing bingo, and spending time with family and grandchildren.

Dear Tammy..you proably don't remember me,but I was married to your uncle Richard,your Moms brother..I knew your Dad from thier marraige,have'nt seen him in years..want to say how sorry I am to hear of his passing.My tho ughts & prayers are with you!

Tammy, Gerald, Kim and Jim: We want to offer our deepest sympathy to you all and your families. We are very sorry to hear of your father passing and want you to all know are thoughts and prayers are with you all. This morning at church we had your father name mentioned at the time of Holy Communion. We will also be making a donation in his memory at St. Jude's children hospital. Harold and I were good friends from the day we worked together for a few years we even had a few beers together we were just good friends REST IN PEACE BUDDY.
