James Edward Schladweiler was born in Farmer, SD to Peter M. and Frances (McVey) Schladweiler on August 30, 1935. James grew up and attended school in Farmer with his older sister, Margaret and younger sister, Kathryn. At an early age James, his mom, and sisters all worked at Mitchell Cleaners.

James married Sharyn Graves on November 29, 1958 in Farmer. They welcomed five children into the world: Don, Sarita, Jerry, Dave, and Ken.

James worked in the trucking and gravel construction business his whole life, owning Schladweiler Construction, and working with all four of his sons in the business. James was known as “Chief” by his family, employees, and friends. He always enjoyed a hot cup of coffee with lots of cream.

After retirement James and Sharyn did a lot of traveling in their motor home across the U.S. and Canada. They bought a home in Arizona, and spent many years enjoying the warm winters. However, come spring, James was more than ready to come back to South Dakota to run loader and be in charge of the fuel truck.

James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharyn; children, Don, Sarita (Bruce) McComish, Jerry (Jody), Dave (Dixie), and Ken; grandchildren, Steve, Jamie, and Jeff Schladweiler, Bryan (Kayla) and Christina McComish, Jeremy, Jessica, and Mitch Schladweiler; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Schladweiler, and Jackson and Logan McComish; sister, Kathryn (Ray) Myers; brothers-in-law, Ron (Gloria) Graves, Dennis (Carol) Graves, Bruce (Vicky) Graves, and Robert Pollereisz; sister-in-law, Gloria (Tim) Stach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter M. and Frances; granddaughter, Molly Schladweiler; sister and husband, Margaret and Gerald Hettinger; niece and husband, Arlene and Vernon Brendon; nephew, Kelly Graves; parents-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Graves; sisters-in-law, Janice Pollreisz and Wendy Tiede; and brother-in-law, Gary.
