Janessa DeGeest, 26, of Mitchell, SD, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, with her family by her side. Visitation will be Monday, December 1, from 5-7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM prayer service at Bittner Funeral Chapel for Janessa’s South Dakota and nearby family. A celebration of her life for her Arizona family and loved ones will be held at a later date.

Janessa Anne DeGeest was born August 5, 1999, in Mitchell, SD. Janessa had an infectious and unmistakable laugh. She loved music, her favorite toys, being outdoors and the simple comfort of familiar routines. The people in her life will always hold onto the happiness she brought them.

She is survived by her parents, Traci and Chris Nieto, and Nathan DeGeest; her siblings Sofia, Paloma, Avery, Sadie, Andrew, Sophie, and Mason; and her grandparents Ruth Altman, Kitti DeGeest, Jim and Sandi Nieto, and Barbie Orcutt; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins near and far.

She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Dennis Altman and Dennis DeGeest.

For those who feel moved to do so, the family would be grateful for memorial contributions to LifeScape in Sioux Falls or LifeQuest in Mitchell, both of which played meaningful roles in Janessa’s life.

Janessa will be deeply and forever missed.
