Jill DeJong, 48, of Mitchell, SD, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Sunday evening, March 22, 2026, at her home in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 27, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Thursday, March 26, from 5-7:00 PM at the Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service.
Jill Marie DeJong was born on August 8, 1977, in Parkston, SD, to Harlan and Susan (Hettinger) Spaans. She grew up at Corsica and graduated from Corsica High School in 1995. Driven and focused, she continued her education at Southeast Technical Institute and Dakota State University.
Jill established a successful career as a Regulatory Compliance Manager for Consortia Consulting in Mitchell.
Jill was united in marriage to Bruce James DeJong Jr at Holy Family Catholic Church on March 25, 2006. Together, they built a life centered on their children and the simple joys of being together. Jill was a fixture at her daughters' many sporting events, never missing a game, and was her family's most consistent and vocal supporter. She found her peace in the outdoors, especially while camping with those she loved.
Jill was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.
Jill was a loving wife and leaves to mourn her husband, Bruce, and loving mother of Taylor Marie, Kira Elizabeth, and Jordan Kaye, loving sister of Jay (Angela) Spaans of Armour, Josh (Jodi) Spaans of Armour, and Jenny (Mike) Plooster of Corsica, loving daughter of Harlan and Sue Spaans of Corsica; she is also survived by her mother-in-law, Colleen DeJong of Mitchell brother-in-law, Kelly (Tabitha) DeJong of Mitchell, sister-in-law, Grace (Leon) Overweg of Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jill was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Bruce DeJong Sr, grandparents, Marvin and Lucille Hettinger, Albert Spaans and Arie & Hermina VanVeldhuizen.
