Jim Feterl
Dates
December 6, 1949 - January 27, 2026Obituary
Jim Feterl, 76, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, from 4-6:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell.
Jim Feterl was born in St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell to Don and Elizabeth “Peg” Feterl. He was oldest of four with two sisters, Joyce and Jean, and youngest brother, Jerry, who died as a child. Jim was raised on the farming family near Salem, but he was much more interested in sports as a stand out on both the basketball and football teams. But his stated, greatest high school accomplishment was taking “The Queen” Linda Warn to the homecoming dance. They married in January 1969 and began to build their family.
With their oldest daughter Carmen in tow, Jim and Linda moved to Minneapolis for Jim to attend Dunwoody Institute. Here they had many good times with the Boecker family and welcomed their son Ryan into the mix. They then moved to Pierre, South Dakota where Jim continued to work in heating and cooling and together, they built a 4-story house to include a lower-level dance studio for Linda to have a growing dance business in their home. In Pierre, they welcomed their daughter Micki.
Jim and Linda then moved to Mitchell in 1978, where he bought Snow’s Refrigeration and continued to support Linda’s School of Dance by again building Linda a dance studio (and then another). Jim was always her number one supporter in charge of all business aspects including billing, maintenance, and of course, filling the candy vending machines. He also was in charge of running their own kids and making dinner each night as Linda taught. He also kept himself busy on the golf course, hunting, bowling, and watching his kids’ activities.
Other than his love Linda, whom he gushed and doted over despite her memory loss, he was very proud of his five grandchildren who he loved to follow and hear of their latest accomplishments. He thoroughly enjoyed his lunches with his sister Joyce, and the banana bread and laughs she would bring. His children are very thankful for the Golf Meeting crew who kept him entertained and in good company for many years, especially recently when things were quiet at the house.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Carmen Bradbury and Micki McCurry both of MN; grandchildren: Zach and Abby Bradbury and Hannah, Bennet, and Charlotte McCurry; sister, Joyce Feterl, OSB; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Schallenkamp and Donna Bunker both of Sioux Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan; his parents; sister, Jean Stiefvater, and brother-in-law, Dave Stiefvater; brother, Jerry; and son-in-law, Todd Bradbury.
