LaVonne (Weeks) Matzner was born July 18, 1937, to Raymond and Mabel (Cole) Weeks on a farm near Wood Lake, MN. They later moved to a farm northeast of Hanley Falls, MN. LaVonne attended school in Hanley Falls and graduated in 1955. While in high school, she felt the call to serve her Lord, so after graduation she went to the Lutheran Bible Institute in Mpls. MN. After completing her studies, she accepted a call to be a Parish Worker at First Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. After two years, she left there to help her mother in the Café in Ruthton, MN as her Dad was now working out of Marshall, MN.  The Café was finally sold, and they moved to Clarkfield, MN. LaVonne accepted a position with the SD Statistical Service in Sioux Falls, SD. While being a part of a Young Adult Group she met Norval Matzner of Stickney, SD, and they were married on Aug. 14, 1964 at her home church in Hanley Falls, MN.

Norval and LaVonne were blessed with four children and eight grandchildren who have brought them great joy. LaVonne enjoyed living on the farm and especially enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens when she was able.

LaVonne was a member of the ELCA until 1998. In 1999 Norval and LaVonne joined The United Methodist Church in Stickney. She worked on various church boards and organizations and enjoyed being a part of several Bible Study groups. LaVonne enjoyed serving her Lord as a member of The Gideons International serving as an officer in the local camp and serving on the State Cabinet, and especially the privilege of giving out God’s Word. She was a member of the Jolly Jills Club of Stickney.

Norval & LaVonne enjoyed traveling and thanks to him she has traveled to the lower 48 states.  What a beautiful country our God has created!

She is survived by her loving husband, Norval of 57 years; daughter, Annette Matzner of Silver Spring, Maryland; sons, Steven (Jetty) Matzner of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry (Kris) Matzner of Marshall, MN, and Alan (Lora) Matzner of Ruthton, MN; eight grandchildren: Daniel, Joshua, and Luke of Sioux Falls, SD, Kaitlyn, Zachary, and Leah Matzner of Marshall, MN, and Adalia and Locklin Matzner of Ruthton, MN; brothers, Lewellyn (Donna) Weeks of Marshall, MN, and Dennis (Marie) Weeks of Peosta, IA; sisters: Delores Jorenby of Toronto, SD, and Darlene (JB) Bouman of Ruthton, MN; and one sister & brother-in-law, Hilda and Gary Kurowski of Davis, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mabel Weeks, stepmother-in-law, Alma Matzner, and brother-in-law, Cliff Jorenby.

In lieu of flowers please direct memorials to the Gideons International.

As cousins growing up together, we had so much fun. Blessings to your family and many of us as we grieve your loss here on earth. But I know you were ready to be with Jesus and that is comforting to all of us..

Norval and family--I am so sorry to read that you have lost your LaVonne. You two were a very special couple--I'm so glad that you found each other. Your life together was a wonderful example of what a Christian marriage should be. Keep all of your memories close and LaVonne will live in your heart forever. Love, Judy Gohl
