Lyle Kinyon, 90, of Plankinton, SD, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake. Visitation will be Monday, April 6, from 4-6:00 PM, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 5:30 PM prayer service. Burial will be at a later date.
Lyle Porter Kinyon was born on January 28, 1936, along with his twin brother, Lawrence. He was the son of Lloyd and Vera (Hawkins) Kinyon of Plankinton, SD. Lyle was raised on a farm alongside his siblings and attended Pleasant Lake School. In his early years, he worked alongside his father and brothers doing construction work and well service.
Lyle married Carol Wiberg, and the couple moved to a farm northeast of Plankinton. There, he worked on the Bakewell farm for a short time before moving to Plankinton and working for Palmer Nowak Construction. He later purchased the Schambers house near Main Street in Plankinton. In 1975, Lyle began working for the Aurora County Highway Department, where he remained until his retirement in 2000.
Lyle enjoyed yard work, tending his garden, and doing craftwork. He was often seen driving around town, talking to people, or heading down to Tobin’s Station to enjoy the machines.
Lyle is survived by his brothers, Harold Kinyon and Lawrence Kinyon; sister, Barbara Kroupa of Kimball, SD; stepchildren, Scott Wiberg, Russ Wiberg of Plankinton, and Rhonda (Dean) Fischer of Butte, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Kinyon; parents, Lloyd and Vera Kinyon; sister, Jean; and son, Paul.
