Margaret Schuldt, 100, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Edgewood Assisted Living in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, April 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney, SD. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Margaret was born February 2, 1924 to Albert and Elisabeth (Wulf) Assmus at Stickney, SD. Her mother died when Margaret was 2 years old, so she was lovingly raised by aunt and uncle Albert Artz, Sr, and then their son Henry and wife Cora Artz.
Margaret attended rural schools through the 8th grade and graduated from Stickney High School in 1942. She received her Teacher’s Certificate from Southern Normal School in Springfield, SD and taught in country schools for five years.
On June 1, 1948, she married LaVerne Schuldt at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. They were the parents of two daughters, Joleen and Dale Ann. They farmed and raised cattle for 40 years on their farm west of Stickney. In 1988, Margaret and LaVerne retired and moved to Mitchell. LaVerne passed away on October 3, 2002.
Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She taught Bible School and was active with the youth groups and women of the church.
She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, reading, writing letters, solving puzzles, playing cards, and all family activities - especially the activities of the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Joleen (Jerry) Buchholz, Mitchell, SD and Dale Ann (Paul) Marshall, Ellijay, GA; four grandchildren, Jay (Sheri) Buchholz, Sioux Falls SD, Jeannie (Derek) Dehne, Sioux Falls SD, Anne (Peter) LaNova, Long Beach, CA, and Jeff Marshall, Marietta, GA; and nine great-grandchildren, Zoe, Keely, Asher, Andre, and Ivan Buchholz; Liam, Aoife, and Keegan Dehne; and Eleanor LaNova. She is also survive by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, LaVerne; her parents; the Artz families; infant granddaughter; brother, Fred Assmus; sister, Betty Parks; two half brothers, Herman and Bill Assmus; and a half-sister in infancy.
Memorials will be used for the benefit of St Paul Lutheran Church.
