Mary Martin, 80, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 20, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Winner City Cemetery in Winner, SD. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Mary Frances Martin was born October 9, 1945, to Frank and Mabel (Ratley) Jelinek in Biloxi, MI. She grew up in Colome, SD where she graduated high school from. She loved her work in home health care, and as a CNA at the hospital and nursing home. After 25 years of health care work, Mary settled in Mitchel for retirement. Mary had one son, Ryan, that she moved from Sioux Falls to Mitchell, so that she could care for him due to health reasons, until his passing. Mary had a very caring and nurturing personality.

Mary enjoyed crocheting, she primarily made Afghans, and also had a large doll collection.

Mary is survived by her brothers, David Jelinek of Colome, SD, Richard Jelinek of Parkston, SD, and James Jelinek of Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Ryan; her parents, Frank and Mabel; and sister-in-law, LaVonne.
