Obituary

Mary Magdalen (Weber) Weepie, 94, of Mitchell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2022, surrounded by family at Saint Benedict’s Hospital in Parkston. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 22, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Ethan. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday, at the church with a 6:30 PM prayer service followed by a Rosary. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Mary Magdalen (Weber) Weepie was born July 24, 1927, to Fred and Catherine (Bowar) Weber. She grew up in rural Dimock. She attended Catholic School in Dimock through the 8th grade, at which time she stayed home to help work on the farm.

She married Robert Weepie on October 11, 1949. The couple lived in Ethan until they later moved to Mitchell. When they retired, they enjoyed traveling south for the winter.

While living in Ethan she was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They joined Holy Spirit Catholic Church when they moved to Mitchell. She was a member of the Ladies’ Altar Society.

Mary worked as a seamstress for ten years at Ravens Industry in Parkston. When they moved to Mitchell, she worked at Avera Brady until she retired. She then volunteered at Avera Queen of Peace for many more years.

She enjoyed spending time playing cards, reading, gardening, watching baseball (she was an avid Twins fan), gambling, and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. They always brought a smile to her face.

Grateful for having shared Mary's life are her daughters, Elaine (Dave) Bialas of Overland Park, KS, Janet (Jerry) Claseman of Mitchell, SD, Karen (Dave) Hohn of Ethan, SD, Laurie (Trent) Schindler of Reliance, SD, and Michelle (Brian) McBrayer of Ethan, SD, along with nine grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, three great-grandchildren, six siblings, and a son-in-law.
