Maryl was born October 28, 1950 in Mitchell, SD, to John and Connie (Traupel) Ackerman, the oldest of five children. She attended Pickstown school and was a member of the last graduating class from Pickstown High School in 1968. Maryl married Patrick Hatwan July 11, 1970 and divorced in 1994. To this union, seven children were born.
Maryl pursued an education in nursing attending, Mitchell Vo Tech attaining her LPN degree in 1970. She began her career as an LPN in Mitchell at Firesteel Nursing Home. Maryl was a master multi-tasker. At the same time her nursing career was beginning, she was busy raising her children, running a daycare, and doing the bookkeeping for the family construction business. After many years of multitasking, she added studying for her RN degree to the list, and in 1996 graduated from Dakota Wesleyan with her RN degree. She began working at Avera McKennan Hospital on the surgical trauma floor from April 2002 until her retirement June 16, 2020. It was here that Maryl made many lifelong friends, becoming known as “Mother Maryl”. While working at Avera McKennan, Maryl added to her list of tasks, working for LTCG doing nursing assessments. One of the additional tasks closest to her heart was working for the Department of Human Services as a guardian for numerous people from 1999 to February of 2023. She treated them as if they were part of her own family.
Even as Maryl juggled these many tasks, her family always came first. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to so many. Maryl is survived by her children Angela Carda, Heather Hatwan, Stephanie (Kamran) Farrokhi, Lindsey Hatwan, David (Amber) Hatwan, Megan (Paul) Savage, and Jonathan (Amanda) Hatwan; Grandchildren Mason Hatwan (fiance Surabhi Swaminath), Madyson Carda, Xoli Hatwan, Brandon (Cameron) Lee, Nicole Conrad, Kobee Farrokhi, Drake Farrokhi, Oaklee Farrokhi, Tiffany Hatwan, Brittney Hatwan, Kristopher Hatwan, Henrik Savage, Berlyn Savage, and Hudson Hatwan; great grandchildren Levi Farrokhi and Beckett Schopp; sisters Barbara Vasquez (Thomas) and Ladonna Kniffen; and sister in law, Judy Ackerman. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter in 1970; granddaughter Rayne; brothers Michael (Betty Sue) Ackerman and James Ackerman; and brother in law Bruce Kniffen.

6 Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten. 7 No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God[c]—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. 8 But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. 9 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.”[d] please know i am here if u need to talk to me aytime thanks
