Obituary

Natalie Wilson, 96, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 19, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be Saturday, November 19, from 12-1:45 PM at First United Methodist with Eastern Star Service at 1:45 PM. Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 21, at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Natalie Edna (Risling) Wilson was born March 14, 1926, in Yankton, SD to Truman and Hulda (Segard) Risling. Natalie attended grade school in Mission Hill, SD and Fruit Land, Idaho. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1943. She graduated from Notre Dame Jr. Academy in 1944 and taught school for one year in Davison County.

She married Clarion Wilson on March 25, 1945. After marriage, Natalie was a homemaker living on a farm southwest of Mitchell, SD. They moved into Mitchell in 1969. 

Natalie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she also belonged to a circle. She was a member of Starlight Chapter #41 for over 50 years. She served as a Past Matron and was secretary for Starlight Chapter for over 30 years. She was also a 4-H Club Leader. 

Natalie is survived by her four children: Elaine Barta, Mitchell; Janette Adams, Emery; Dale (Deb) Wilson, Mitchell; and Amy (Craig) Hildebrand, Mitchell; 8 grandchildren: Christopher Barta, Monticello, MN;  Laura Lindquist, Buffalo, MN; Janice Kayser, Spencer, SD; James Adams, Carthage, SD; Joshua Adams, Minneapolis, MN; Eric Wilson, Mitchell, SD; Kyle Wilson, Mitchell, SD; Megan Hildebrand, Mitchell, SD; 3 step grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; 8 step great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; her parents; son-in-law, Roger Barta; grandson, Bryan Wilson; one infant great-grandson, Gabriel Wilson; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank the staff at Firesteel and Avera Hospice for their wonderful care of Natalie.   

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Eastern Star Home, 126 W 12th Ave., Redfield, SD 57469 or to the Stained Glass Window Fund at First United Methodist Church, 310 N Rowley St., Mitchell, SD 57301.

Natalie was such a sweet lady. I was lucky to have worked with her when she provided the church lunches at FUMC. She will be missed. Our prayers are with you.

Natalie was just as warm and sweet when I first met her when Clarion and Tom worked together at West 16 DX. They had so much fun and Natalie joined in. I'm sure Clarion welcomed her home with open arms and maybe a joke or two. She led a blessed life & will be missed!
