Norma Wilson, 98, of Mitchell, SD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. All are welcome to join the family for a luncheon reception following the funeral service. A private family burial will follow at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Norma Jean Wilson was born February 16, 1926, to Emil and Emma (Radel) Lang in Alexandria, SD, and graduated from Emery High School in 1944. She married her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Wilson on June 1, 1947, celebrating 65 years of marriage until his passing.
Mitchell was Norma’s home throughout her adult life, where she worked for Weller Insurance and Northwestern Public Service. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and found great joy in her community connections.
Family was the center of Norma’s world. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished time with her loved ones. After retirement, Norma and Bob enjoyed traveling together, and she took special pride in having visited all 50 states.
Norma is survived her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Butcher of Custer, SD and Pamela Pope of Rapid City, SD; son, Thomas (Beth) Wilson of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren: Chrissy Scoville, Jody Scoville, Mike Austin, Jenni Dole, Lisa Colton, Julie Hew, and Sarah Baer; ten great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, two sisters, one brother, and sons-in-law, Terry Scoville and Steve Pope.
