Obituary

Patricia Hohbach, 94, of Mitchell, formerly of Mt. Vernon, SD, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will Friday from 5-7:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Patricia Louise Hohbach was born September 2, 1931, in Mitchell, SD, to Charles Bernard and Hazel Thelma (Spratford) Johnson. Patricia was baptized in 1943, confirmed in 1948, and was a current member at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. From age 7 to 18, she was raised by her grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Johnson.

On December 26, 1949, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Evan John Hohbach. Together, they farmed southwest of Mt. Vernon until Evan got sick, and they moved to Mt. Vernon in 2000. After Evan passed away in 2008, Patricia moved to Mitchell in 2010.

Patricia had a crocheting business for 16 years, selling her creations at many craft sales. She was well known for her crocheted doilies, angels, and snowflakes. She loved to cook, sew, and care for all her outdoor flowers.

Patricia is survived by her son, Steve (Cheryl); grandchildren: Melissa, Melinda (Derek), Brett (Chelsea), and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Evan, Lucas, Ensley, Logan, Landry, Emmitt, and Emerie; and half-siblings, Ronald Johnson and Sharon Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Hohbach; daughter, Sally; infant son, Larry; infant daughter, Kimberly; great-granddaughter, McKinnley; brother, Charles Bernard Johnson Jr.; sister, Vivian Bernette Johnson; and half-sister, Anita Johnson.

Pat was an amazing, caring neighbor right near our farm. She lived life well and cared for others willingly. She and Evan were great neighbors and helpers as needed.
