January 26, 1943 - February 10, 2026Obituary
Ronald Simon, 83, of Mitchell, SD, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at his home under hospice care with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life Ron’s life will be Friday, April 24, 2026, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service.
Ronald Louis Simon was born on January 26, 1943, in Hoven, SD, to Grace and Bernard Simon. Ron attended Hoven High School, where he was involved in basketball, football, and track. Ron had a competitive spirit and never turned down a friendly competition. A trait that stayed with him throughout his life. He graduated in 1961.
Following high school, Ron attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, earning his diploma in Electrical Technology in 1964.
A few years after beginning his technical career, he chose to pursue his passion for buying and selling livestock. This reflected Ron’s strong work ethic and a love for agriculture. Later, while living in Sioux Falls, SD, he dedicated 12 years as an over-the-road truck driver for K&J Trucking Company before settling on his farm near Mitchell, SD, in 2010.
When he wasn’t behind the wheel, sitting at his desk, or at a sale barn. Ron could be found enjoying local basketball games with friends. Above all, he cherished his family. He made time to support them, whether at an annual rodeo, his grandson’s baseball games, or any special event. You could count on him to be there, cheering them on and sharing in their moments. His support was constant in the lives of those he loved. Ron will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He freely gave his time and heart. He never hesitated to help someone in need. Ron’s door was always open! Ron’s memory will continue to inspire all of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ron is survived by his daughters: Lisa (Vince) Denief, Lynn (Rick) Lawton, and Angie (Kevin) Wallen; grandchildren: Trenton (Hannah) Denief, Taylor Denief, Tate Denief, Johnathon Lawton, Ryan Lawton, and Jackson Wallen; siblings, Patti Gisi, Don Simon, Tom (Linda) Simon, Deb (Dan) DeRouchey, Dan Simon, Laurie (Fritz) Rogstad, and Julie (Jeff) Schroeder.
We are incredibly grateful to the Avera@Home Hospice Care team for their tender care and support during this difficult time.
