Ruth Ann Cosand, 87, of White Lake, SD, entered her eternal home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake. Burial will be at Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton. Visitation will be from 9-11:00 AM Saturday, March 12 at the church with a Rosary at 10:30 AM. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Ruth Ann (Altman) Cosand was born on November 14, 1934, at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Mitchell, SD to Michael and Frances Altman. She has always been full of spunk and a fighter. She was born at 2 lbs. The medical staff at the Mitchell Hospital said she would not make it, and sent her home with her parents. Her parents wrapped her in cotton and placed her in a chicken incubator to keep her warm and fed her with an eyedropper. Due to her parents’ efforts, she survived and lived until she was 87 years old.

She graduated from the eighth grade at Crystal Elementary school in rural Aurora County. She attended Plankinton High School.

On June 6, 1955, she married Charles F. Cosand and moved to Milwaukee, WI where Charles was employed by Wisconsin Cold Storage. In 1957, they moved to White Lake where Ruth Ann was a stay-at-home mother and raised her four children. In 1991, Charles and Ruth Ann retired and moved to a home in White Lake. Ruth Ann worked part-time at the White Lake School lunch program and for the Senior Citizens. She loved playing cards and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Ruth Ann is survived by one son and three daughters: Terry (Cindy) Cosand, Sioux Falls, SD, Lee Ann (Jerel) Pfaff, Sioux Falls, SD, Charlene (Mike) Henderson, Clark, SD, and Ann Marie Riggs, Mitchell, SD; ten grandchildren: Kyle (Brooke) Cosand, Brett Cosand (Samantha Vanden Brink), Drew (Kelsey) Cosand, Kjerstin (Tyler) Blotske, Stephanie (Tyler) Ibach, Adam (Tara) Henderson, Trevor (Karisa) Fuoss, Tyler Fuoss (Kaci Hall), Korey Fuoss, and Kaelie Fuoss; and 14 great-grandchildren: Easton, Callie, Chase, Ellie, and Theodore Cosand, Baylee, Shay, Grayson, and Tatum Henderson, Eli Walker, Amelia, Mason, Maverick, and Lincoln Fuoss. She was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2008, her parents, Michael and Frances Altman, and brother, Eugene Altman.
