Thomas “Tom” Somerville, 48, of Mitchell, SD, died Monday, May 23, 2022, in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 27, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Mitchell. Burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Thomas David Somerville was born October 13, 1973, to Robert and Ellie (Anderson) Somerville in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Mitchell and Alexandria, graduating from Hanson High School in 1992. He earned his AAS degree in Computer Systems Technologies from Mitchell Technical Institute in 1994.
Upon graduation from MTI, he began a career in the technical service industry. Tom started TS Services where he worked alongside his brothers for the next 26 years. From an early age, he found his niche in the hospitality and foodservice industry, and went on to own and manage various establishments including The Bird’s Nest, Thirsty’s, and Dr. Lucky’s.
Tom enjoyed traveling, entertaining, gardening, cooking, the Dallas Cowboys, his cats, and spending time with friends and family. He celebrated life to the fullest and his two greatest joys were his daughters, Alexandra and Maryn.
Tom will be remembered by his large and loving family: daughters, Alexandra Peck and Maryn Somerville; mother, Ellie Mechels; brothers, Steve (Meagan) Somerville, Nolan (Kevin) Clark, and Vance (Mindi) Tuffs; he will also be remembered by all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Welcoming him into heaven are his dad, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his beloved cat, Simba.
I enjoyed our recent messages to each other about our daughters graduating High School and soon they would both be off to college at Mankato!!! You were so proud of your daughter !! I always loved exchanging pics of our siamese cats to each other!!! Until we meet again….
You and grandpa Alvin can now have your drinks. Love you both. You will be missed.
