Todd Ray Hanten Jr. “TJ” was born to Todd and Michele (Halweg) Hanten on a cold wintery November night. The old primer grey ford pickup got Todd and Michele to the hospital before their bundle of joy arrived. When TJ arrive and the doctor said it’s a boy, Todd fainted. Todd was teased that he wanted a boy so bad he passed out, little did he know TJ would be followed by two more boys. Oh, the things they did growing up, the fights and arguments to having each other’s backs when they needed brotherly love. TJ was the first grandchild on both sides of the family, which he was loved and spoiled by them all.
His love for trucks and fast cars started at a very young age, growing up on the Old Roll N’ Wheel Racetrack with his track cousins. There were many summer nights spent in the old pickup box watching his dad race while playing with his racing cousins. TJ had many friends along the way, but one friend that was there from childhood was his best friend “Putz”.
As TJ started school he joined the youth wrestling program, but found his true love was for baseball. He would even ride his bike 13 miles to town down gravel roads to get to practice if everyone was too busy. Coach said he was one of the fittest players on the team because of it. TJ spent many hours in the Davison County 4-H programs. He showed dogs and loved his animals. His true passion was for the Shooting Sports Program. He competed in BB gun, .22 rifle, pistol, shotgun, and archery which was his favorite. He loved archery so much; he got his dad started in it as well. He was one of the first 4-H members in Davison County to compete at 4-H Nationals, where he placed 11th out of 42 shooters. Keith and Bonnie fed his passion for archery by taking him on carp shoots, paddle fishing, 3-D shoots, and keeping him in the best equipment.
TJ loved the great outdoors, the many fishing trips with Grandpa Gene and Grandma Marilyn, and trying to out fish them for biggest walleye was his goal and he succeeded at. He has instilled the love for fishing into his pride and joy, his son Gage and daughter Haven.
TJ knew his place in church and learned to appreciate all things from Pastor John Hansen’s teachings. Pastor John confirmed TJ and officiated TJ and Jennifer’s wedding ceremony in God’s created church, on the farm next to one of TJ’s favorite fishing holes, the stock pond.
TJ is survived by his wife, Jen; children, Gage and Haven; parents, Todd and Michele; brothers, Levi (Chauntel) and Wyatt (Nicole); grandparents, Gene Hanten and Ron and LuEva Halweg; aunts, Shelly (Matt) Demmers, Kris (Chad) Blindauer, Corey Halweg, Wendy (Travis) Bechen, and Jennifer Halweg; comrade, Matt “Putz” Puetz; and many nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marilyn Hanten, and his great-grandparents.
We are all blessed to have shared a part in his life, and even though our hearts hurt now, the memories will live on forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the TJ Hanten Memorial Fund at Palace Federal Credit Union for his children’s future education.
