Wallace “Wally” Moore, 87, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, April 1, 2022, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Wallace Dean Moore was born on December 16, 1934, on the farm in rural Mount Vernon, SD to A.M. and Frances (Newton) Moore. He was raised on the family farm south of Mount Vernon and then moved to the farm north of Mitchell. Wally attended the Mount Vernon Country School and a Country School in Northern Davison County from 1939 to 1944, then finished his schooling in Mitchell until 1954.

Wally then lived on a farm by the Jim River from 1944 to 1950. When his next adventure took him out to Napa, Idaho in 1951. Wally then returned to SD, where he went to the current farm North of Mitchell in 1952 to work the family farm and cattle. Wally had a few different jobs in his lifetime, D & L Implement in 1962 with odd jobs till 1968 when he found a job with Clark Trucking. He then started his long tenure with Robideau Trucking in 1972 and acquired the CB handle, “The One-Armed Bandit”. He was employed with them for 28 years before he decided to retire.

Although Wally had hung up his truck driving days, you could still find Wally visiting with his lifelong friends down at the “lie-brary” gaining all the “knowledge” he needed to keep going on. He also enjoyed a “sarsaparilla” while at the local Moose where he was a lifetime member. Wally enjoyed spending time with all of his family at the many family gatherings. After visiting with Wally, he always had his famous goodbye saying, “Come back when you can’t stay quite so long”.  He always had a joke to lighten your day.

Wally is survived by his sister-in-law, Donna Moore; nephew, Bryan (Brenda) Moore; niece, DeVonne (Glen) Sommer; 6 great-nephews and nieces: Seth Hauge (Jen), Max (Katrina) Hauge, Marie (Mike) Mickelson, Lee Hauge, Levi (Colleen) Connell, Ashton Connell (Jeremy), and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin Moore, and infant nephew, Lannie Moore.
