William “Billy” Bigge, 92, of Mt. Vernon, SD, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024, at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
William “Billy” Henry Bigge was born May 31, 1932, along with his twin brother Robert, to Joseph and Gertrude (Mengenhausen) Bigge in Armour, SD. William was the youngest of 12 children. He attended country school graduating from the eighth grade, he was then needed to help on the family farm.
William fell in love and married Bernice Ann Klein on October 1, 1964, at St. George’s Catholic Church in Armour. To this union, their daughter Brenda Margaret, and son Brian William were born. William took great pride in his grandchildren and that his first grandson was named after him.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, westerns, game shows, and baseball. Billy worked many years as a farmhand near Armour and later near Mt. Vernon, SD. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
William is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Johnson; son, Brian (Rebecca) Bigge; three grandchildren, William, Robert, and Hailey; two great-grandchildren, Tinzley and Mavrik; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, parents, seven sisters, four brothers, parents-in-law, Corney and Margaret Klein, and many nieces and nephews. There were many waiting to greet him at Heaven’s gate.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude for the care and compassion provided by Aurora-Brule Nursing Home staff during this difficult time.
