Zachary was born May 19th, 1989 in Chamberlain, SD, to Dan and Stacie (Sinclair) Heesch. He grew up and attended school in Mitchell, SD. Zach was involved in sports, music, and Boy Scouts, achieving the Life Scout Level. Biking the Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills and canoeing in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota were highlights for him. Zachary was a great server, working at Country Kitchen and Whiskey Creek for many years.

Zach joined the Army National Guard at age 17 and was very proud of his military service. Zach traveled the world, deploying to Afghanistan with the 842nd Engineering Company of Belle Fourche, and to Iraq with the 155th Engineering Company of Wagner. He valued learning about different cultures and seeing the world. Zach participated in a peacekeeping mission to Surinam, as well as working to create berms during times of flooding of the Missouri River in Pierre and Yankton. Zach also worked at Ft. Hood training units prior to deployment. Zach loved being part of a team with purpose and service. In between deployments,

Zach worked in construction and concrete with Schoenfelder Construction and Mike Pierson Concrete Construction.

Zachary enjoyed playing games and building Legos with his son, Matthew. He loved music. He played piano and percussion instruments. Zach was artistic and creative. He enjoyed waterskiing in summer and snowboarding in winter. Zach was a voracious reader. He enjoyed a good game of disc golf with friends. Zach was a "cat whisperer" and animals liked him. Zach collected things...stamps, coins, keys, maps, and friends from all walks of life.

He is survived by his son, Matthew Tanska Heesch; parents, Stacie and Dan Heesch; siblings, Matthew (Mauri) Heesch, Katie (Jordan) Reiner, Emily Heesch, Joseph Heesch; nieces, Eleanor and Remi; nephews, Miles and Corbin; grandmother, Estell Sinclair; and many other family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
